The USAID/Nigeria’s Director of Economic Growth and Environment Michelle Corzine says The Feed the Future Water for Agriculture activity, supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has increased access to water for almost 55,000 farmers and herders in three northern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Director, who also admits that the action has resulted in the adoption of improved agriculture production practices by over 1,600 farmers.

The statement highlights that access to water and scarce water facilities have contributed to the conflict between herders and farmers in the Northeast.

The four-year Water for Agriculture activity, which lasted between 2019 and 2023, implemented by Catholic Relief Services with partners, had helped reduce tensions between the two communities.

Across the three states, Water for Agriculture constructed and rehabilitated 21 water facilities, including dams, irrigation schemes, boreholes, and water retention ponds.
