Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has announced resumption of train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line, about 48 hours, after an attack on the facility.

Amaechi made the announcement during an assessment and inspection of repair works on the damaged portion of the rail tracks, a few kilometres to the Rijana train station in Kaduna state, north-west Nigeria.

In company of officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, the Minister made a trip to the spot, destroyed by suspected bandits.

He says the incident has further necessitated the need for timely deployment of a security surveillance system on the railways.

The Minister also expressed satisfaction that such repair works could be done by indigenous engineers.

Following wednesday night attack, the corporation temporarily suspended operations on the corridor in a move it said was aimed at safeguarding lives of passengers.
