The Commissioner of police in FCT Babaji Sunday has ordered investigation into sources of what he calls countless maliciously crafted and Panic-generating write-ups on social media.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations officer Josephine Adeh, the investigation follows the report making the rounds that there were gunshots at the Dantata Bridge in Lugbe and Ministers Hill in Maitama on Tuesday night.

The Commissioner said the attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to a series of erroneous write-ups and publications making the rounds, especially on the social media spaces, suggesting that there was heavy gunfire simultaneously around Dantata bridge in Lugbe and Minister’s hills in Maitama.

The statement said Following the receipt of the news, the Command’s Intelligence and Tactical asset teams were drafted to the scene where they discovered that the news was false.

The Commissioner said Having maintained monitoring and surveillance of the area all night, and with the intelligence at the disposal of the Command, it is important to categorically state that the news is in every sense unfounded and should be disregarded.

Members of the public are therefore enjoined to eschew generation and promulgation of fake and unverified news but go about their lawful business without the fear of harassment or molestation of any kind from any quarters
