Accessibility to clean and safe drinking water has been identified as a major issue confronting many households in Nigeria.
This was part of the discovery at a training workshop on the water safety plan for water service providers organised by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation in Uyo.
Water, they say, is life. But it is safe, hygienic water that makes water life indeed. This was the major subject of discussion advanced at the training workshop on water safety planning by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation for water service providers in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital.
Addressing participants at the workshop, the Director of Water Quality Control and Sanitation in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Mrs. Elizabeth Ugoh, represented by a deputy director in the ministry, Dr. Dickson Kadiri, says states in Nigeria are saddled with the responsibility of providing safe and hygienic water supply services to the public.
While declaring the workshop open, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, Enobong Mbobo says the concern should not just be accessibility to clean water but access to safe and hygienic water.
The MD and Chief Executive Officer of the Akwa Ibom Water Company, Engr. Edo Etuk, and the Acting General Manager of the Akwa Ibom State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (AK-RUWASAN), Saviour Udo, expressed optimism that the takeaways from the workshop will shape a robust water safety plan for Nigeria.
The workshop was attended by stakeholders in the water sector and water service providers across the South-South State.
