Accusations and counter accusations are trailing the Bakura State Constituency inconclusive bye-election by the major political parties in Zamfara State.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is accusing the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, of hiring political thugs from Niger, Kebbi, Katsina and Sokoto States to disrupt the process.

There were allegations of heavy votes buying and selling by the major political parties in most polling units across Bakura Local Government Area of the state.

The leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who is also the former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, said the bye-election was characterised by violence and a lot of irregularities, which the APC as a party considered unacceptable.

He accused some political office holders in the state of perpetrating rigging, snatching of ballot boxes and violence, during last Saturday’s bye-election in the state.

APC said it has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, tendering their complaints, concerning the exercise, and promised to boycott if the rerun will not be conducted in line with election procedures and guidelines.
