Executive Director of DAAR Media Academy, Mac Imoni Amarere has been elected as board member of Actionaid International.
Amarere who is a seasoned journalist, author, and media expert joins Juana Bengoa of Spain, Sophia Mbeyela and Abdallah Mashausi of Tanzania as the newest members of the Board.

A Nigerian lawyer with over 28 years’ experience in Commercial and Corporate Law, Fatima Aliko Mohammed was also elected as a member of the 2023 Assembly Organising Committee.
The elections were held during the 2022 ActionAid International Annual General Assembly in Madrid, Spain on Thursday, June 30.
According to the 2023 Assembly Convener, Jummai Umar-Ajijola, the election of Amarere and Mohammed “reflect the trust of the Actionaid Federation in Nigeria and the capacity of the country to support the actualisation of the Feminist Agenda of Actionaid International.
With over 40 years of experience working with civil society organisations and making valuable contributions in the African media space, Amarere served as a National Commissioner in the National Human Rights Commission between 2005 and 2009.
ActionAid Nigeria is a social justice non-governmental organisation working to eradicate poverty through gender equality and the redistribution of wealth and power with a presence in 45 countries.
