The need for authorities to respect the fundamental human rights of Nigerian citizens came to the fore when some civil rights activists under the auspices of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, converged on Lagos Tuesday in memory of renowned human rights and medical doctor late Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti, who impacted on many Nigerians through his human rights advocacy.
Speaking during the 20th Memorial Lecture, CDHR National President, Debo Adeniran, as well as other dignitaries, explained that nothing has so far changed in the country since the death of Beko Ransome-Kutu, adding that insecurity, police brutality, and corruption, among others still persist.
They called on the authorities concerned to always uphold the rights of Nigerian citizens since the country is a signatory to the world charter on human rights.
