The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on communities affected by the recent crisis in Lamurde Local Government Area of the State.

This followed the violence that erupted in Tingno Dutse and Tito on Thursday, May 14 and the attendant tension in the area.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Humwashi Wonosikou.

It states that “Sequel to breach of peace in Tingno Dutse Tito, Sabon Layi and Bagashi communities, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has imposed a 24-hour curfew from 6:00am to 6:00am with immediate effect”.

The statement further reads that “government requires residents to abide by this directive, until further notice so as to restore normalcy to the area.

Governor Fintiri views the disturbances as unacceptable, stating that security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew, urging residents of Lamurde Local Government Area to shun rumour mongering and provide relevant information to security agencies to ensure a peaceful Adamawa.”

The Governor advised residents to exercise restraint and remain calm as Government is doing everything possible to track down the perpetrators and restore peace in the affected communities.

Barely 48 hours after a communal clash broke at in Tingno community of Lamurde in Adamawa State, another village in the same local government area has come under attack by unknown gunmen.

Worried by the number of social unrests, Governor Fintiri before the imposition of the 24-hour curfew asked the youths to form vigilante groups.

The Governor took time to go round the community, to ascertain the level of damage.

He assured the people of Mbemum community of improved security. Fintiri who spoke in Hausa, asked the youths to brace up to form vigilante groups in their communities to complement the efforts of security personnel in protecting their lives and properties.

The residents say, no life was lost, but that the attackers came with the intention to burn down their houses and steal foodstuff.
