Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved the release of eight billion naira for the payment of long-overdue pension arrears owed retired civil servants across the state.
The development brings long-awaited relief to thousands of pensioners, many of whom had endured nearly two decades of neglect.
Many of them retired from public service almost twenty years ago and were almost forgotten by successive administrations.
But hope has been rekindled through the release of eight billion naira to clear the backlog of unpaid pensions, a move pensioners describe as a long-overdue intervention.
Some of the retirees say life after retirement had become unbearable.
The Chairman of the Adamawa State Pension Board, Ibrahim Abba, assured that the process is progressing.
Many pensioners now look forward to a more secure and dignified life after service.
