Finally, the African Democratic Congress, ADC held its long awaited first national convention under the leadership of the David Mark-led group with concerns over alleged attempts by the All Progressives Congress, APC to stop the political gathering from taking place.
The national convention was held after series of allegations against the APC-led govt for not approving its preferred venues to carry out the event and the alleged threats to revoke license of the event centre should the owner allow the ADC members gain access to the facilities.
While delivering his speech, the ADC national chairman, David Mark addressed President Bola Tinubu directly, asking him what he is afraid of despite having 90% control of the National Assembly and State Governors across Nigeria.
Mark said the opposition party will be positioned as a “national movement for redemption” and a credible alternative for citizens disillusioned by the ruling party.
Mark also condemned the Joash Amupitan-led INEC for withdrawing recognition of his leadership, calling it a “direct assault on democracy” and demanding the immediate resignation of the INEC Chairman and all National Commissioners.
Other notable political figures at the convention include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former Speaker, House of Representatives and former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Rivers State Governor and Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi and other former governors, former and serving federal lawmakers
