The African Democratic Congress, ADC has taken a swipe at the Tinubu’s administration over the United States government’s latest travel advisory, which now places Nigeria on Level, “Reconsider Travel,” describing it as a national humiliation.

The new main opposition party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement, cited the rising insecurity and a collapsing healthcare system which seems to be consistently damning reflection of the government’s failure to protect citizens and the country’s image abroad.

Abdullahi also slammed the absence of Nigerian ambassadors in key capitals, particularly Washington D.C., and accused the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of trivialising urgent diplomatic appointments under the guise of reforms.

The national publicity secretary accused the Tinubu administration of hiding behind excuses of “reforms” to avoid fulfilling its responsibilities, stating that serious governments do not use reforms as reasons to stop governing.

ADC also raised concern over the US advisory which mentioned the collapse of Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure as foreigners are now being advised to consider planning an emergency airlift before stepping off the plane to Nigeria through an evacuation insurance means.

Highlighting the absence of an accredited ambassador in Washington D.C., the opposition party noted that it was unacceptable that Nigeria remained voiceless in the capital since October 2023 with no high-level diplomats to engage Trump’s administration since its emergence into office, over six months ago.

It however called on President Tinubu to prioritise Nigeria’s diplomatic representation towards demonstrating a commitment to governance by urgently addressing the gaps in the nation’s foreign policy engagement.
