BAUCHI

Critical stakeholders in the administration of criminal justice system, have met in  Bauchi State to review and seek the opinion of stakeholders, on increased budgetary allocation, to ensure effective oversight, monitoring and implementation of the administration of criminal justice law in Nigeria.

The review of the documents was organised and supported by the MacArthur Foundation, in a two-day workshop.

The document study was conducted in about nine states: Edo, Delta, Bauchi, Sokoto, Katsina, Kwara and Cross River State.

For thes stakeholders, it is a welcome development, as it is now a law that whenever a witness is called, the Ministry of Justice has to bear the expenses of his or her transportation and accommodation, for which funding has been the major challenge.

The Acting Director of the foundation, Peter Madouma, represented by Nnamdi Odo, told the participants at the review meeting to critically look into the research findings, to take an overview of state capacity to facilitate the effective implementation.

For some of the stakeholders, it is all about defending human rights, which many of the defenders lack knowledge on.

The review of the research documents had in attendance, the police representative, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence, and the Nigerian Correctional Service, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Civil Society Organisations and some other critical stakeholders in the administration of criminal justice law in Bauchi State.
