The Super Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for the round of 16 at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations after beating Guinea-Bissau 1-0 in their final Group A game.
An own goal by Opa Sangante in the first half was enough to seal qualification for Jose Peseiro’s men.
The result means the Super Eagles qualify second on seven points behind Equatorial Guinea who topped the group on superior goals scored.
Equatorial Guinea produced one of the shocks in AFCON history as they thrashed Côte d’Ivoire 4-0 in the other game.

The Ivorians will now have to wait to see if they will qualify as one of the third best placed teams.
Guinea-Bissau’s Nito Gomes had the first shot on target in the 7th minute but his effort was well saved by Stanley Nwabali.
In the 13th minute Famana Quizera hit a strike unfortunately it went off target.
Guinea-Bissau continued to push forward and went close in the 21st minute but nothing came out of it.
The Eagles then took the lead on 36 minutes as Simon’s low cross intended for Osimhen saw Sangante divert it into his own net.
In first half added time Osimhen met a cross with a header but it went just off target.
Guinea-Bissau had a chance in the 51st minute only for Quizera to see his attempt go wide.
On 64 minutes Alex Iwobi, who came on in the second half, saw his low stroke go just wide after good play from Moses Simon.
Osimhen had the ball in the net from a Bright Osayi-Samuel low cross but he was penalized for handling the ball.
Substitute Zaidu Sanusi also had the ball in the net some minutes later but Osimhen was adjudged to have handled the ball in the build up to the goal.
