The playoffs for quarterfinal spots at the 2025 FIBA men’s Afrobasket got underway on Monday with key matchups taking centre stage.

All eyes are on a blockbuster quarterfinal showdown as Nigeria’s D’Tigers prepare to face Senegal in one of the most anticipated matchups of the 2025 FIBA Men’s Afrobasket.

Nigeria, the 2015 champions, are chasing a second continental title—exactly a decade after their historic win in Tunisia.

But standing in their way is a battle-tested Senegalese side, one of the tournament’s most successful teams, with 17 podium finishes and five titles to their name.

Senegal earned their spot in the last eight with a dominant 78–65 win over South Sudan on Monday, ending the run of this year’s surprise contenders.

This quarterfinal will be the sixth Afrobasket meeting between Nigeria and Senegal, with D’Tigers holding a 4–2 head-to-head advantage.

Their last clash came in the 2017 semifinals in Dakar, where Nigeria silenced the home crowd with a thrilling 76–71 win.

Mali edged Guinea 70–67 in a thrilling encounter and will now take on côte d’Ivoire in Wednesday’s quarterfinal.

Tuesday’s fixtures promise more fireworks, as defending champions Tunisia face Cape Verde, with the winner earning a spot against hosts Angola in Thursday’s quarters.

Meanwhile, Egypt awaits the outcome of the final playoff tie between Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
