Tension gripped commuters along the Gusau–Funtua highway in Zamfara State after suspected bandits reportedly planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the busy road.
Community members say the incident occurred early Friday morning when it was discovered that bandits had planted the IED overnight at the same location where a similar explosive was planted on Wednesday. The site is along the main road near Kuchi village in Tsafe Local Government Area.
Motorists were left stranded for hours amid fears of a possible attack, with many abandoning their journeys and waiting at a safe distance.
According to eye witness, Security operatives later arrived at the scene and safely detonated the explosive device, clearing the road and restoring access for travelers to continue their journeys.
As of the time of filing this report, police have not issued an official statement confirming the incident.
Although normalcy has since returned to the area, residents say anxiety remains high as uncertainty lingers over what may happen next.
