The Nigerian government wants key players in the Agri-tourism subsector to develop a framework that will guide the activities of the subsector as government is ready to explore the untapped potentials that abound in the Agri-tourism subsector.
The Minister of state for Agriculture and food security, Sabi Abdullahi, said during an event organized in Abuja to commemorate the world Agri-tourism day in Nigeria, that Agriculture-tourism practice in the country will open up markets for farmers and attract local and foreign investors into the Agriculture sector.
Agri-tourism involves visiting farms, old plantations, gastronomic festivals, or other agricultural businesses for the purpose of experiencing rural life, culture, and food.

Agri tourism links agriculture production and processing with tourists, customers and investors, for the purposes of exploring or trading while generating income.
Minister of state for Agriculture and food security, Senator Sabi Abdullahi said it was time to tap into the wealth of potentials that abound in the subsector, given the set up of Agri-tourism services currently in Nigeria.
Other speakers expressed optimism that the practice of Agri-tourism can turn around the Agriculture sector, create jobs, wealth and improve local economies.
This year marks the first time Nigeria will be commemorating the world Agri-tourism day, which was necessitated by the creation of the Agri-tourism services.
The theme for the 2024 world Agri-tourism day is, “Food security for all.”
