Cross River State is stepping up efforts to modernize agriculture with the acquisition of 108 mini and medium-sized tractors.
The move, unveiled by the state Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Development is part of Governor Bassey Otu’s push to transform farming into a viable, commercial enterprise.
In a bid to shift agriculture from subsistence to large-scale commercial farming, the Cross River State Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Development procured over a hundred tractors for distribution to farmers’ cooperatives across the state.

Representating governor Bassey Otu, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Johnson Ebokpo during a press briefing, said the 108 tractors will be distributed to registered farmers at subsidized rates, helping to reduce the burden of land preparation and mechanize production across key value chains.
To ensure fairness and transparency, a dedicated committee has been set up to oversee the distribution process.
With these 108 tractors, Cross River is not just equipping its farmers, it is also fueling a shift towards agribusiness and sustainable food production.
