Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has called on the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria to partner with the State in commercial cultivation of coconut.
Governor Emmanuel made this known when he flaged off the planting of 300,000 special breed of coconut at the Government Coconut Plantation, Ekeya in Okobo local government area.
The Akwa Ibom State Chief Executive said his administration is committed to making Akwa Ibom the leading state in coconut cultivation in the country so as to boost agriculture and create wealth for the people.

Governor Emmanuel stated that the planting of coconut trees at secondary schools in the state will be aggressive after planting 50 coconut trees to mark the day
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet commended the governor over his vision of diversifying the local economy.
September 18 of each year is observed as coconut day by the government and people of Akwa Ibom State.
