The coming February 26 bye-election for the Akure South/Akure North Federal constituency in Ondo state, has reignited stiff political contestation among the various political parties in the state.
The parties according to some stakeholders are currently intensifying efforts and leaving no room that may cost them victory as they prepare for the election.

Following the release of timetable for bye-elections for six constituencies in four states, with Akure North /South included by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, political parties especially the PDP and the APC are already strategizing for the poll in Ondo state.
The Akure South/North Federal constituency seat became vacant following the death of Adedayo Omolafe, the previous occupier of now vacant seat
The task before the parties now following INEC’s declaration is on how to conduct transparent primaries ahead of the major election in February.
In setting agenda for the Political parties ahead of the February bye election, political observers in ondo state say the contending parties must throw up candidates with track records and democratic credentials similar to that of late Omolafe.
While the the Ruling All progressives Congress, APC has fixed February 1st for its primary, the people’s Democratic party, PDP has fixed it’s own primary for February 3rd ,2022.
