The Airline Operators of Nigeria, AON, has called off its move to shut down air operations from Monday 9th may after the Aviation Minister persuaded the association to rescind its decision.

The AON had issued a statement on Saturday threatening to shut down operations until the rising cost of aviation fuel price is completely tackled by the federal govt as the operators cannot survive such anymore.

The members arrived at the decision following an intervention by Sirika who met them in Lagos ahead of the planned shutdown of air operations.

After more than three hours of meeting, the AON shifted ground in the overall interest of cooperate partner, guests staff and the industry, but agreed to continue a fresh dialogue with the federal govt with the hope to resolve the skyrocketing cost of jet A1 and other the lingering challenges facing domestic airlines in Nigeria.

The association acknowledged that the current cost of aviation fuel is unsustainable and will not be passed to the flying public and therefore called on the government to act urgently to resolve the unending operational challenges.

This is the second time in three months that the AON had made threats to suspend all domestic flights operations owing to the increasing price of Jet A1 but the federal govt appealed to the association and promised to wade into their demands to be part of the importation processes of the product into the country Among others.
