The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has banned two Nigerian Immigration Service officials attached to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, following an allegation on the 19th of February, by the mother of a 14 year old girl, travelling in Qatar Airline.

The two NIS officials were alleged to have extorted the sum of eight thousand Naira from her daughter.

FAAN’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Faith Hope-base, in a statement, said a team of Aviation Security officers were commissioned to investigate the allegation.

The authority noted that the allegation was confirmed upon the expiration of the 4 weeks of investigation, as the officers involved were identified with the help of footage from the CCTV facility, and the cooperation from the Nigerian Immigration Service.

FAAN said the officers were made to refund the N8,000 extorted from the young air passenger, while their, “On Duty” cards were also withdrawn permanently, to serve as a deterrent to others.

It commended the mother of the child, who has confirmed receipt of the refunded money for deeming it fit to escalate the case, and assisting the authority tremendously in the course of its investigation.

The Authority promised to continue to identify and sanction any airport official, particularly of FAAN, found wanting in extorting passengers, or perpetuating any act of illegality in the airports across the country.
