The Enugu State correspondent for AIT News, Kelechi Ekeledo has been selected for the prestigious Oxford Climate Journalism Network, OCJN Fellowship.

Ekeledo is one of 100 participants chosen to join the sixth cohort of the network, which runs from July to December 2024.

The OCJN Fellowship includes 99 other journalists from dozens of countries and territories, representing a wide range of news outlets.

The programme aims to address the challenges journalists face when reporting on climate change and to help editors and news media executives develop their approach to this critical issue.

Ekeledo will benefit from the six-month-long online courses, which will also feature leadership programmes and original academic research. This research aims to track how people in different countries relate to climate change news.

The OCJN is a new initiative from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford. While the training is expected to be mostly online, organisers have mulled the possibility of in-person sessions in the future.

Organisers state that the network aims to strengthen the competence of participating journalists and their organizations “to cover climate change, not as an isolated topic, but as something that intersects with many other aspects of our lives and societies.”
