  1. The ongoing saga surrounding Senator Natasha, the representative of Kogi Central, and the allegations of sexual harassment against Senator Godswill Akpabio, is a deeply troubling development that threatens to derail the legislative agenda and activities of the 10th Senate.
  2. It is imperative that we, as a civil society group, express our concern over how these allegations are not only affecting the individuals involved but also the broader functioning of our legislative body.
  3. This situation has resulted in a distraction that takes focus away from the pressing issues that affect ordinary Nigerians. We call upon both parties to seek an amicable resolution to their differences, allowing the Senate to return to its primary purpose: to create and pass laws that improve the lives of all Nigerians.
  4. The legislative process should not be overshadowed by personal disputes, and it is important that both Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senator Godswill Akpabio prioritize the collective welfare of the Nigerian people above all else.
  5. Moreover, we must address the alarming trend of weaponizing sexual harassment allegations. While it is vital to support genuine victims and create an environment where they can come forward without fear, it is equally important to recognize the far-reaching consequences of misusing such serious claims.
  6. If allegations continue to be weaponized, there is a grave risk that society may become desensitized, leading to skepticism towards actual victims who suffer real trauma.
  7. We strongly urge Senator Natasha to provide concrete evidence that can substantiate her claims. The absence of proof may lead to perceptions of mere blackmail, a dangerous narrative that could undermine the credibility of women in politics and hinder their chances of obtaining elective positions. It is important for the integrity of the Senate and the trust of the public that these matters are resolved transparently and justly.
  8. We also call upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in this matter. His leadership is needed at this crucial time. In conclusion, it is our hope that both Senator Natasha and Senator Akpabio can rise above personal conflicts for the greater good.
    Signed: Arc(Mrs) Margaret Adesuwa Ehilebo
