Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has signed into law the Quarantine and Restriction of Movement Regulations 2020 which declares Coronavirus a dangerous infectious disease.
The law which took effect from March 30, 2020, and will be in force till April 30, 2020, prohibits public parks, shops, eateries, clubs, restaurants, markets, and offices from opening for business except those selling foodstuff, medicine, and essential commodities.

Tricycles are not to carry not more than two passengers while buses are to carry only one passenger per row and private vehicles not more than one passenger in front and two behind.
Public burials, weddings, and other forms of public gathering are also prohibited while places of religious worship are to strictly adhere to the one metre spacing social distancing rule with not more than 20 persons and must provide hand sanitisers and hand washing facilities.
The law closes all entry points into and out of the state and advised all residents to follow all preventive measures put in place against the pandemic while those with symptoms are mandated to submit themselves to quarantine and must not carry on in a manner that will endanger the health of others.
Those exempted from the law include government officials, security and fire service personnel, health workers, foodstuff suppliers, and others on essential duties.
