The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has marked International Youth Day 2026 with a walk aimed at promoting fitness, peace and stronger engagement between young people and the police.
Police Commissioner Baba Azare used the event to urge youths to stay away from cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and other criminal activities.
Police officers, young people, community leaders and other participants took to the streets in a show of fitness and unity.
For the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, the exercise was also an opportunity to engage young people on their role in community safety.
The Commissioner of Police describes young people as an important force for development and peace.
He wants them to choose education, entrepreneurship, sports and skills acquisition over cultism, drug abuse and cybercrime.
But the police say the walk is also about their own relationship with young people.
The command says closer engagement can help build trust, improve cooperation and strengthen community policing.
The police are asking young people across Akwa Ibom State to become advocates for peace within their communities.
The command says it will continue to pursue youth-friendly policing and partnerships aimed at making communities safer.
