Mozambican national Anabela Rungo, who is the mother of the Miss Universe 2024 beauty queen Chidinma Adetshina, is likely to face deportation following her detention by the South African Home Affairs in Cape Town.
Rungo was detained on Saturday, February 15th 2025 following her arrest by a joint operation of the home office investigators and the South African Police Service.
Though Anabela Rungo’s South African documentation was withdrawn in 2024 after it was found to have been fraudulently obtained, she has continued to live in South Africa.

Trouble started when her daughter Nigerian South African model and beauty queen Chidinma Adetshina came under heavy criticism for participating in the 2024 Miss South Africa beauty pageant; she was said not to be a South African citizen hence ineligible to contest; which led to her exit from the competition.
Anabela Rungo’s identity and travel documents have since been revoked by the Home Affairs.

Immigration lawyer Ashraf Essop explained that once an individual’s travel documents are declared invalid, the person has two options; a voluntary exit from South Africa or the individual is detained and deported.
