The Lagos State Police Command says, its attention has been drawn to news making the rounds that a 14-year-old girl was hit and killed by a Police bullet on Saturday, 3rd July 2021, at the venue of the Yoruba Nation Rally at Ojota, in Lagos.

The Command in a press statement signed by Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, said, it hereby wishes to debunk the rumor and state categorically that, it is a calculated attempt to create confusion and fears, in the minds of the people of Lagos State and the country at large.

It said the command did not fire a single live bullet at the Ojota rally on Saturday.

It added that the said corpse was found wrapped and abandoned at a distance, far from the Ojota venue of the rally, behind MRS Filling Station, inward Maryland, on the other side of the venue, with dried bloodstains, suggesting that the corpse was not fresh.

The Police said, after a close look at the corpse, a wound, suspected sustained from a sharp object was seen on it.

It said the news is false and mischievous.

The Police Command, therefore, urged the general public to disregard the news and go about their lawful normal daily activities, while investigation to unravel the incident will commence immediately.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has, therefore, commiserated with the family of the found deceased and assured that a thorough investigation will be carried out.

The Command equally warned against the spread or peddling of fake and unconfirmed stories, as such could be dangerous and counterproductive.
