The family of a 38-year-old man, Enemi Muhammed, allegedly shot dead by a police officer in Idah, Kogi State, is calling on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to set up an independent panel to investigate what they described as an extrajudicial killing.
Enemi Muhammed, who his family insists had no criminal record, was reportedly gunned down by a serving police constable.
The family is accusing Kogi State Police Command of attempting to shield the officer involved for failing to give a clear explanation on what happened.

To them, Enemi’s death is a grave injustice, not just to the family, but to those who depend on him for their daily survival.
But in a twist, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, claims the deceased had been on the police wanted list for alleged gun running and other criminal offences.
The Commissioner insists that a full investigation is underway, and that other suspects have already been apprehended in connection with the case.
