Katsina state government says it plans to eradicate street begging involving the Almajiri and out of school children in the state.
Governor Aminu Masari who stated this during the inauguration of a committee to review the home grown school feeding programme in the state says, the move is to bring sanity and check the abuse of the Almajiri system of education.

The United Nations children fund, UNICEF in 2018 put the total number of out of school children in Nigeria at 13.2 million making it the single highest in the world.
Katsina state alone has 996,000, of the out of school children prompting the state government to work out modalities to curb the trend.
Governor masari therefore charged the review committee specifically on the need to ensure that the almajiri children are captured in the feeding programme.
in an acceptance speech, chairman of the committee and special adviser to the governor on empowerment and special intervention, abdulkadir nasir pledged their readiness to work in accordance with the terms of reference to make the school feeding programme a success in the state.
the committee has as members representatives of traditional rulers, members of the civil society and security agencies among others.
