The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has named 100m hurdles world record holder Tobi Amusan, alongside women’s long jumper Ese Brume and sprinter Favour Ashe, among Nigerian athletes to represent Nigeria at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The team consists of 17 men and 18 women in track and field events scheduled to hold from July 26 August 11 2024.

Nigerian athletes will compete in the 100m, 200m, 100m hurdles, high jump, long jump, 400m, 800m, shot put, discus, hammer throw, javelin, and four of the five relays.

Amusan, who was recently cleared to run in the Paris Olympics after the Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed appeals against her doping offense acquittal by the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal, will be aiming for a better performance in her third Olympics. She did not make it beyond the heats in her debut appearance in Rio 2016 and finished fourth in Tokyo 2020, narrowly missing out on the podium.

Team Nigeria will compete in nine events each in the men’s and women’s categories, and the Mixed 4x400m relay, as the 2024 Olympic Games take place from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, August 11.
