Ahead of the September 28, 2024 scheduled Local Government Council elections in Anambra State, the opposition Labour Party is heading to Court to challenge what it calls obnoxious provisions in the recently amended electoral laws of the State.
Addressing Newsmen at the Party’s Secretariat in Awka, the leadership of the Labour Party, described as illegal and unconstitutional the hurried process adopted by the State House of Assembly in the amendment of the Electoral law, without following due process and known legislative procedures.
The opposition Party says the purported amendments to regulate the internal activities of political parties ahead of the Anambra State Councils election is not democratic ,gagging and not far reaching on judicial decisions, especially by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The Party insists that the Anambra State Electoral law which was assented to by Governor Chukwuma Soludo on June 11, 2024 and has gone through two major amendments within two months, is not acceptable to them
