Commercial activities are beginning to pick up in parts of Anambra State, South East Nigeria as some residents summoned the courage on Monday, to open their business and offices.

This is coming after two months of forced weekly Monday and other serial sit-at-home actions imposed on the South East region by the outlawed separatists agitation group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

A previous announcement by IPOB that it has suspended the action had generally failed to make residents revert to normal lives, but now, the Police is embarking on what it terms, a Confidence Boosting Patrol, aimed at assuring the public of their safety.

While large numbers of the shops at the major markets across Anambra State were still shut, few that summoned the courage to open for business, witnessed low patronage.

This may not be unconnected with security concerns arising from incidents of brutal killings and violent attacks on public and private properties, recorded in the last few weeks in different parts of Anambra State.

Although no group has claimed responsibilities, but public eyes are looking in the direction of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network, ESN which is agitating for an independent country.

The Police and other security agencies seem to have done little to checkmate the activities of the marauding killers and arsonists, sending deep fears on citizens across the State and the region.

But, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State command, Tony Olofu has led a team of senior officers on a confidence boosting patrol to areas of recent violent attacks including the industrial city of Nnewi.
