Anambra State Government announces re-opening of Onitsha Main Market

The Anambra State Government has announced the reopening of Onitsha Main market on Monday after the one week closure of the market ordered by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

A statement by the State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, says traders are to resume business activities tomorrow emphasizing there is no longer any form of sit-at-home on Mondays in Anambra State.

Mefor in the press statement assured of adequate security encouraging residents to report any security concerns to appropriate authorities.

The State Information boss, also reminded civil servants and teachers that pro rata salary system remains enforced “no work on Monday, no pay”.

Meanwhile, uncertainties mounts in public institutions across south east states following the latest lockdown directive of Onitsha Main market by Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo.

FULL STATEMENT:
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

ONITSHA MAIN MARKET REOPENS ON MONDAY

This is to inform the general public that the closure of Onitsha Main Market, ordered by Mr. Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR lapses this weekend.

To that effect, all traders are hereby informed to resume business as usual on Monday, February 2, 2026, as there is no longer any form of sit-at-home on Mondays in Anambra State.

Ndị Anambra and residents are assured of adequate security and encouraged to report any security concerns to 5111.

Meanwhile, civil servants and teachers are reminded that pro rata salary system remains in force: no work on Monday, no pay.

Also, parents must release their children for school on Mondays to avoid sanctions.
