One person has been reportedly killed in an election violence that occurred during voting hours in Orumba South Local Government Area, as people of Anambra State went to the polls to elect a governor, this Saturday.
The victim simply identified as a local councillor from the area, was said to have been shot dead, but the Police is yet to confirm the identity of the attackers.
Multiple sources told AIT.live that the deceased who represented Owerre Ezukala Ward One in the Orumba South Local Government legislative council was attacked and killed at about 1:30pm, while attempting to cast his ballot.
The incident took place at a time the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of election security operations, DIG Ben Okolo, was busy monitoring the election security situation in several LGAs of the Anambra North Senatorial zone.

DIG Okolo who visited Dunukofia, Oyi, Anambra East, Onitsha North and South Local Government Areas, told AIT.live crew embedded in his team that the election security plans and strategies were on course.
Across the many polling centres, in the areas monitored along the Northern zone corridor, voters say they were encouraged by the presence of Police personnel and the orderly conduct of the exercise.
They also want a tight post-voting security arrangement as the Anambra State governorship election process winds down to the critical stages of results collation and declaration.
