Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of two persons after a Mining pit collapsed in the Farin-Doki area of Shiroro Local Government Area of the State.
Spokesman of the Police in Niger State, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, who confirmed this development in a statement, said the pit collapsed on Sunday, April 13, trapping two Miners identified as Buhari Kano and Mallam Tasiu, both from Kano State.
According to him, Police operatives from the Erena Division and residents quickly rushed to the scene and began rescue efforts.
“Sadly, the victims were found lifeless and their bodies were taken to Zumba hospital for further examination,” the Police said.
Preliminary findings suggest that the victims were illegally mining at the site on the night before the collapse.

Abiodun added that a full investigation is ongoing to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Mining pits collapse have been a a reoccurring incidents in Niger State and have claimed several lives in recent times.
