Barely two weeks after a mining site collapsed at Galadima Kogo in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, trapping 14 persons with no rescue to date, another pit has collapsed at Bazakwoi of Adnun community in Paikoro Local Government Area of the State.
The latest incident has claimed the lives of 3 persons and one injured, with nobody trapped.
The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Abdullahi Baba-Arah who confirmed the incident said, it occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 13.
According to him, the incident involves local miners who are said to be illegally mining the gold deposit environment and scavenging for the mineral.
Baba-Arah further added that 3 persons were confirmed dead while one person was rescued alive with injuries.
The NSEMA boss therefore said, that with no one trapped, there was no search and rescue operation.
