Vaccination of cattle against Anthrax

The Taraba State Government says it has administered not less than 1.2 million doses of the anthrax vaccine under the free vaccination campaign for animals, to close the state’s corridors against the possible spread of the disease.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Nicholas Oliver, says the exercise has received the cooperation of herders in rural communities.

Taraba State has never recorded any confirmed cases of the Anthrax virus, but its detection in July, prompted precautionary measures by the State Government.

Through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the State Government flagged off a free vaccination exercise for cattle across the 16 local government areas of the state, to seal off the state’s corridors against the possible spread of the anthrax virus.

Four weeks after the flag-off of the free vaccination exercise, the Ministry says all Divisional Veterinary Officers in the 16 local government areas of the State have been guided to ensure the success of the free anthrax vaccination exercise.

At least 1.2 million doses of the Anthrax vaccine have been administered, and 100,000 doses are expected to be administered in the weeks to come before the free anthrax vaccination exercise is concluded.
