The leadership of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions, NASU, has adopted the recommendation to expel some of its members for anti-union activities.
President of the Union, Chris Ani, while disassociating the group, said their expulsion would serve as deterrent to others who see trade unionism as an avenue to promote illegality and rascality
The emergency National Executive Council of the second highest organ of a trade union met as a result of the threat to the existence of the union following agitation and calls for the sack of the General Secretary of the Union by some members through the media.
Eleven out of 82 branches of the university trade group that form NASU had called for the sack of the General Secretary, however the leadership of the university trade group passed a vote of confidence on him.
There are seven trade groups that form NASU, its membership are drawn from the examination, health, research and allied institutions.
NASU is an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
