Barely 24 hours after the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP lost four of its members in the House of Representatives to other political parties, the former ruling party suffered another huge loss at Thursday’s plenary as six lawmakers on its platform defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC and the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
The gale of defections in the green chamber also hit the Labour Party, LP with five of its members dumping the party as lawmakers in the National Assembly continue political alignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
House Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, while announcing the defections through separate letters by the lawmakers, attributed the wave of defections to lingering internal crises rocking the opposition political parties.

Four PDP lawmakers from Adamawa State including Bitrus Kwamoti, Zakaria Nyampa, James Barka and Kobis Thinmu joined the APC while Mohammed Bargaja from Sokoto State and Midala Balami from Borno State also moved to the ruling party.
The ADC was the major beneficiary of defectors from the Labour Party, LP as Afam Ogene, Professor Lilian Orogbu and Peter Aniekwe from Anambra State joined the new coalition platform. While Jesse Onuakalusi from Lagos State and Osaro Omoruyi from Edo State both on the platform of LP also defected to the ADC.
A lawmaker on the platform of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, Peter Uzokwe from Anambra State, also joined the ADC.
These defections position the ADC as a leading opposition platform as the 2027 general election approaches.
