The All Progressives Congress has added a new dimension to its Nomination/Expression Of Interest Form package.
A form titled, “Letter of Withdrawal,” now forms part of the package that accompanies all aspirants who purchased the bundle.
The form, addressed to the Office of the National Chairman of the ruling party, enquires about the name, state and position the aspirant is seeking.
The aspirant is expected to append his or her signature to the document.
There are, however, fears that the innovation will circumvent the 2022 electoral act that requires all aspirants to be carried along in case of consensus.
Political watchers say the document is meant to arm-twist the aspirants to submit to the whims and caprices of the party if the leadership settles for a consensus candidate.
But National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka says, the document is inconsequential to the aspiration of party members.
According to him, no aspirant is obliged to submit the document, adding that the form has been provided for those who voluntarily wish to withdraw from
the race.
