APC Campaign Rally: One killed, another injured as political rivals clash in Akuyam, Misau LG

The Ongoing governorship Campaign Rally of the Bauchi State main opposition party, All Progressives Congress, APC, turned bloody, as one person was killed and one other injured.

The incident occurred in Akuyam town of Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State, during the 2023 electioneering campaign of the APC in the area.

The state’s Police Command Spokesperson Superintendent of Police, SP Ahmed Wakili, confirmed the incident which showed that it happened at about 8:30 pm, and led to the death of one person while One was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Azare for treatment as a result of a gunshot.

The statement read, “On Monday, at 8.30 pm, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Air Marshal Abubakar Sadique, was on his way from Dambam Local Government Area to Akuyam for a campaign. On reaching Akuyam town, his entourage was attacked.

As a result, his escorts opened fire and two persons namely, Saleh Garba aged 35 years, and Yakubu Yunusa, 20 years old, all of Akuyam village were shot and evacuated to the Federal Medical Center, Azare, for treatment.”

“On Tuesday, we received confirmation that one of them has died while receiving treatment.”

In a swift reaction, the Campaign Council of the APC Gubernatorial Candidate condemned the incident, claiming that about 20 of their vehicles were damaged and smashed during the attack.

Speaking in an interview with journalists in Azare, the Director of Media and Communications of Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar Campaign Council, Salisu Ahmed Barau, said that they did not attack anyone, adding however, that it was the opposition that attacked them.

While adding their voice on the matter, the PDP Campaign Council Through its Director General, Farouq Mustapha, condemned the incident caused by the APC gubernatorial candidate campaign entourage, calling for a thorough investigation, and that anyone found wanting should face the full wrath of the law.

While commiserating with the people of Akuyam and Misau Local Government, the DG quickly enjoined the people, especially PDP stalwarts and supporters, to continue to be law-abiding throughout the electioneering period.
