A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former lawmaker, Magnus Abe says the idea of different people queuing up to declare their Presidential ambition is not a sign of disunity within the party.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Abe welcomed the various declarations from different members of the party.

He however noted that it is important for the party to effectively manage the various ambitions by ensuring level playing field for all.

According to Abe, all those who have thrown their hats into the ring for the coveted title are by their track records eminently qualified.

Reacting specifically to the expression of interest by former Governor of Lagos State and a National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abe said his competence is not in doubt if given the opportunity.

” I believe Asiwaju is not only competent but also capable and he has the track record of doing what is right for his people”.

He backed the declarations of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi and that of the Former Governor of Abia State and current Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu; stressing that Tinubu’s declaration has not in anyway foreclosed contest for who becomes the next President of Nigeria.

“It is now left to them to take their message beyond the statehouse to let Nigerians know what they represent and stand for and galvanize support within the party”.

Abe commended President Muhammadu Buhari for opening his doors and accomodating to all the various declarations; stressing that the President’s disposition to those who want to take over from him is quite unique and completely different from the trends in African politics.

On his Governorship ambition in River State, Abe said he has not made up his mind and that he is currently concerned about how to unite the party in the State.

He warned that APC cannot afford to repeat the mistakes it made in previous Governorship elections in River State and expect different result in 2023.
