Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah

The recent demolition of business premises, properties and residential homes in parts of Enugu State by the Governor Peter Mbah administration has continued to stir controversy.

The State Government said the demolition of the structures is to make way for the proposed three ultra-modern motor terminals at the popular Holy Ghost, Gariki and Abakpa, all within the Enugu metropolis, as well as at Nsukka.

But the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC in the State has criticised the action of the government, saying it was done without a human face as some of the affected traders cry for justice.

The Enugu State APC Chairman, Ugochukwu Agballah who was at one of the Holy Ghost demolished area of Enugu metropolis, accused the government of being insensitive to the plight of the ordinary citizens, alleging that the demolition was part of a land grab scheme.

The opposition is equally questioning the finances of the State Government in the past year, demanding that the administration of Governor Mbah accounts for the huge Federation Account allocations and Internally Generated Revenues, claiming there are no visible projects to equate the revenue figures.

But, officials of the Enugu State Government have been speaking to explain the demolitions and the benefits of the proposed ultra-modern bus terminals. Commissioner for Information, Aka Eze Aka told AIT.live that the projects will create a more organised Enugu city, adding that the demolitions followed due process.
