APC Governors' Forum

Nigerian Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress made effort late on Wednesday to find a truce among them in the controversial Tax Reform bills before the National Assembly.

Part of the move to resolve the controversy resulted in consultations of major stakeholders in government late on Wednesday.

Some of the top notch government officials present at the Progressive Governors Forum meeting were the Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, the Minister of Finance, Adebayo Olawale Edun, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacheus Adedeji.

It is not clear if the ruling party Governors were able to reach a compromise on the matter as the Chairman of the forum, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State kept sealed lips on the matter saying issues discussed were mainly “family matter”.

It was learnt that the APC Governors moved to the Presidential villa immediately after the meeting apparently to inform President Tinubu of the outcome of the meeting.

In a similar vein the Nigerian Governors Forum, the umbrella body of All 36 Governors in Nigeria also held consultations till the early hours of Thursday.

The meeting ended without the usual communique sparking speculations that all may not have ended well.

The Tax Reform Bill has generated so much controversy with most of the Governors from Northern Nigeria kicking against the bills especially the area that concerns the disbursement of monies realised from the Value Added Tax.
