APC LG Congress: Confusion trails exercise in Adamawa, Bauchi State

The local government congress in Adamawa State was characterised by crisis resulting in security operatives firing gunshots to disperse aggrieved party members.

Ait.live gathered that a serving senator for Adamawa Central, Aishatu Binani, also stormed the secretariat to demand for justice.

She said most of the supervisors posted to Yola South were selected, with the sole intention to favour a certain group of party members.

At the time this drama was taking place, journalists were prevented from recording.

One of the aggrieved members from Yola North said they do not know the whereabouts of the officials that were supposed to conduct the election in his area.

At about 3 pm, the venue of the local government area congress for Yola South and Yola North was still unknown.

The chairman of the committee posted to Adamawa State, Umar Adamu, called on party members to adopt the consensus model, to ensure peaceful conduct of the congress.

In Kebbi State, Elections into the Chairmanship position of the All Progressives Congress was devoid of rancor.

The exercise was supervised by Osita Okechukwu, who led the team from the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

Addressing the party members before the election, Osita Okechukwu commended the party members for the matured manner they conducted themselves during the Ward Congress.


Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State and the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, also participated in the Local Government Congress.

Elsewhere in Bauchi State local government congress went ahead despite a court order restraining the party from going ahead with the exercise.

In Tafawa Balewa, Bogoro and Dass Local Government area, the exercise went, amidst confusion, as some members of the party were alleged to have conducted a parallel congress elsewhere.

In Bogoro Local Government, the door of the party secretariat was locked and the party members held the congress outside.

Some members of the party said, they adhered strictly to the guidelines released by the party leadership.

The Acting Chairman of the APC in the state, Uba Ahmed Nana, and the leader of the other group, Aminu Tukur, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.

However, the members are calling on the national body of the party to intervene in the matter, before it gets out of hand.

In Jos, there was an impressive turnout as Members of the Ruling All Progressive Congress in Plateau State held their Local Government Congresses Peacefully.

Stakeholders told Ait.live , that they adopted a consensus mode to elect officials in all the Local Government areas Across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.
Secretary of the Party in Plateau State Bashir Sati, said the Party did not received any Court Communication stopping them from conducting the exercise.

Aggrieved members are expected to approach the Congresse appeal committee after the Conduct of the exercise in all the 17 Local Government areas of the State.
