A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and member of the National Working Committee, Salihu Lukman has faulted the failure of the Abdullahi Adamu led-National Working Committee of activating the statutory role of the body.

He also accused the National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu and the National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore of financial misconduct by unilaterally approving the expenditure of the party without due consultation of the National Working Committee, NWC as stipulated in the party’s constitution.

In a letter titled: “APC and Question of Progressive Credentials”, Lukman noted that these pitfalls have always characterised the era of Odigie Oyegun, Adam’s Oshiomhole and Mai Mala Buni’s caretaker committee.

He noted that despite the change in the nomenclature of the Board of Trustees to the National Advisory Council at the March 28, 2022 National Convention, no attempt has been made to constitute the advisory body.

He alleged that meetings of the NWC holds without necessarily ensuring that existing constitutional provisions are respected adding that the critical function of the National Executive Committee, NEC which include approving the national budget of the party as provided in Article 13.3 has been ignored.

Despite earning billions of Naira during the sale of nomination forms for the 2023 election, the NWC is yet to declare to any organ of the party how much was realised from aspiring contestants, he stated.

“As a member of the NWC, I can say without fear of contradiction, all decisions bothering on managing the finances of the party are being taken by the National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu and the National Secretary Iyiola Omisore. Most members of the NWC are reduced to onlookers or at least rubber stamps”.

On the big challenge of regulating the contest for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly, Lukman predicted a difficult time ahead with party organs aloof to their responsibility.

While calling for the President of the Senate to be zoned to the South-East or South-South, he solicited for the activation of wider consultation process and negotiations in the interest of equity and justice.
