The governing All Progressives Congress, APC in Borno State has reduced fees for local government nomination form for women and the physically challenged to encourage wider participation in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for December 13.
Addressing journalists in Maiduguri, APC’s State Chairman, Bello Ayuba said the party has set councillorship forms for women and physically challenged aspirants at two hundred and fifty thousand naira, while chairmanship form is put at one million naira, representing a 50 percent reduction from the standard fees.
Ayuba said the standard fees remain five hundred thousand for councillorship and two million naira for chairmanship.
He explained that the fee adjustment was made after consultations with party members in other states, but with consideration to the challenges posed by insurgency and economic realities in the state.
The party chairman emphasised that the move is aimed at ensuring inclusivity and giving women and persons with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in the elections.
In his words, “Whosoever is willing to contest for chairmanship or councillorship, as long as they are members of the party, the door is open to all.”
The APC in Borno State also said it will soon commence the screening of aspirants for the 27 local government chairmanship positions and 320 ward councillorships.
Ayuba urged party members to remain peaceful during the electoral process, stressing that APC is determined to uphold democratic principles, and deliver credible elections, across the state.
