The primary election has come and gone, but the ripples generated are still being felt as the seven aggrieved aspirants and their supporters insist that the APC did not conduct any Governorship primary in Plateau State.
The exercise which began peacefully, was thrown into confusion when the agents of some of the aspirants alleged irregularities and intimidation of delegates by government officials which led to a walk out by the current Deputy Governor, Sonny Tyoden and other aspirants.
The exercise however continued leading to the emergence of Nentawa Yilwada as the APC Governorship candidate in Plateau State.
Not surprising, the development did not go down well with the aggrieved aspirants and their supporters who continued to protest against the outcome. It was not immediately clear whether the aggrieved aspirants made formal complaints to the Petitions Committee set up by the National Secretariat of the party.
Some of the complaints by aggrieved members of the party however include issues with the election of the adhoc delegates at the ward level which is already in court.
Nonetheless, the APC leadership in Plateau State insists that the exercise was free, fair and credible.
The clouds of uncertainty hanging over the ruling APC in the state is a situation that should worry all party members, as the current face-off has the potential to affect the party’s compliance with electoral guidelines and timeline as the jostling for political offices in 2023 intensifies.
