Hundreds of farmers and Arakpa- Oghara indigenes, mostly widows yesterday protested against the alleged forceful take over of their farmlands by the Nigerian Navy Logistic Command in Oghara.

The protesting indigenes, who besieged the Ajagbodudu/Oghara road say the Nigeria Navy took away their only source of income.

The farmers carrying placards with different inscriptions such as” leave our inherited land alone” God hates oppression” partially put to a halt business activities in some parts of the home town of former Delta State Governor,James Ibori

Speaking during the protest some of the residents say the illegal acquisition of their farm land by the Navy command will cause unbeatable hardship in the community.

The protesters accused the naval authority of forcibly using those who are supposed to protect them to illegally take over their farmlands.

Reacting to the protest, the Ethiope West Local Government Council Chairman, Solomon Golley appealed for peace and cordial co-existence between the two parties while promising to look into the allegations.

The protesters also accused the leadership of the navy command for abandoning it’s activities in Ogharefe to forcefully acquire acres of land that’s 30kilometres far from it’s original location. However, all efforts to reach the flag officer Commanding the command for reactions proved abortive.
