Against the backdrop of mounting concerns over small arms proliferation, the Cross River state government has declared its commitment to partner the federal government to address the pressing issue.
Governor Bassey Otu reiterated the state government’s determination during a visit by a delegation from the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in the South-South Zone in Calabar.
Highlighting the seriousness of the situation, Governor Otu emphasized that Cross River State, with its extensive sea borders, faced significant security threats from neighboring areas.

Governor Otu took immediate action by directing the Commissioner for Lands to allocate land for the construction of a permanent zonal office for the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
Retired Major General Ifiok Obot, the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons Zonal Coordinator, commended the state government’s resolute stance, and outlined the center’s mission to prevent and control the proliferation of small arms and light weapons through advocacy and collaboration.
The governor’s firm commitment signals a significant stride towards enhancing security and safeguarding the life and property of Cross River State residents.
